LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - In just the last 5 weeks, the U.S. Labor Department says four-thousand new claims were filed for unemployment benefits. The nation's unemployment rate currently?stands at around 7.8 percent.
Two?career?fields that are among the most stable, even growing, are the medical field and information technology.
That's why the?Arkansas chapter of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is hosting a free healthcare career fair this Thursday, January 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Little Rock Hilton, located at 925 S. University.
"It's just one of those good news stories in Arkansas," says David Blankenship, president of HIMSS. "There are jobs to be filled and jobs to be had at a time with spiraling unemployment."
This event will allow you to interact directly with dozens of healthcare professionals, including employers and vendors, and find out more about the exciting college courses available in Healthcare IT.
One?company that will be?represented at the fair is UAMS. Dave Miller, chief information officer, says?there are plenty of jobs available for the right people.
"On my staff, I currently have about 35 to 40 openings in this area, so it's definitely an opportunity," explains Miller.
