Dark matter contest enlists the masses

The nature of dark matter has stumped astronomers for decades, so now they're turning to the masses for help.

Scientists have launched a public competition in an attempt to better understand dark matter, the mysterious stuff thought to make up 83 percent of all matter in the universe (the rest is the "normal" matter that makes up everything we can see and touch). Despite its prevalence, dark matter cannot be detected directly, only sensed through its gravitational pull.

The contest organizers ? which include astronomers from the University of Edinburgh, the crowdsourcing website Kaggle and British investment firm Winton Capital Management ? hope thousands of people will take up the challenge using a variety of techniques.

"By encouraging thousands of people to focus on a problem, we have a good chance of making progress quickly," astronomer David Harvey, of the University of Edinburgh, said in a statement. "This competition could make a real difference in solving an enigma that has puzzled astronomers for decades." [ Gallery: Dark Matter Throughout the Universe ]

Participants may be drawn in by more than just pride or the desire to advance scientific knowledge. Winton is offering prizes of $12,000, $5,000 and $3,000 for the competition, which is known as Observing Dark Worlds.

Astronomers know that dark matter causes galaxies to form huge clusters in space. Observing Dark Worlds asks participants to develop ways to analyze pictures of these galaxy clusters taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope.

The goal is twofold ? to better understand how the clusters formed and to create a detailed map of dark matter distribution, both of which could yield key insights.

"Winton is delighted to support this competition because understanding dark matter is one of the great scientific challenges of the 21st century," said David Harding, Winton?s founder, chairman and head of research.

Researchers expect the contest to attract people who have experience organizing or analyzing large datasets, such as scientists, statisticians and engineers. A better understanding of dark matter could come by adapting techniques or knowledge outside the field of astronomy, organizers said.

"Competitions bring together an array of the brightest individuals around the globe, and focus them on challenging problems," said Kaggle data scientist Ben Hamner. "We?re excited to leverage this capability to attack some of the most fundamental questions in astronomy."

If you're interested in throwing your hat in the ring, visit www.kaggle.com/c/DarkWorlds for more details about the contest. Entrants have until Dec. 16 to submit their ideas.

Astrological Mysteries of Sridham Mayapur - Dandavats

By Abhirama das

Srila Prabhupada explains in the purport of Srimad Bhagavatam 1.12.12 that the most auspicious constellation of stars takes place during the appearance of the Lord in this material world, and it is specifically called jayant?, a word not to be abused for any other purposes. He continues that as a proper place and time is selected to receive a respectable personage, so also to receive such a personality as Mah?r?ja Par?ks?it, who was especially cared for by the Supreme Lord, a suitable moment is chosen when all good stars assembled together to exert their influence upon the King.

So, He makes a point that when great personalities or even when the Personality of Godhead Himself appears in this world, it does not happen randomly regarding time , or with a random horoscope, but that it is a very special astrological combination? or ?certain constellations of good stars? when this event takes place.

Of course a nondevotee astrologer or a mayavadi astrologer may conclude that ?the Supreme Personality of Godhead is also ?under the influence of stars? therefore, but we know that this is not the case. It is a lila and He is just playing according to the rules of this material world. He is actually the controller of the stars.

But interestingly Srila Prabhupada is not speaking only about the specific time, He also mentions that a proper place is selected to receive extraordinary personalities.

The following is a humble attempt to explain how the Lord?s birthplace may also be indicated by astrological calculations.

Many devotees probably know that Sridham Mayapur is located almost exactly on the Tropic of Cancer.

What is the Tropic of Cancer?

Widely known Equator? is an imaginary line on the Earth?s surface equidistant from the North Pole and South Pole,? ?that is dividing the Earth into? Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere. Similarly, the Tropic of Cancer is an imaginary circle of latitude on the Earth that marks the most northerly position at which the Sun may appear directly overhead at its zenith.

In other words, it is not something that you can touch or something that you could even see. It is just a mathematical line or circle on the Earth.? It is a concept, like a ?PI? in trigonometry is a concept but this doesn?t make it? meaningless or useless.

It is actually very useful as it marks the areas on this planet which are ?tropical? or very hot. So, tropical areas are located between the Tropic? of Cancer which is also called the Northern Tropic and between the Southern Tropic? on the other side of the Equator.

And these areas are extremely ?hot for a simple reason that the Sun is going very high there.

In this way, Sridham Mayapur is exactly on the ?edge? of tropical areas.

Why is this significant?

Astrology is a science of symbols and symbols are to be interpreted.? The Tropic of Cancer is symbolically a line where the Light and the Darkness meet. In tropical areas it is not only hotter ?but there is also more Sun or more Light. The Sun reaches? its highest position there which never happens outside of tropical areas, like Europe or North America, for example.? And Sridham Mayapur is a place exactly on that borderline which separates those areas of ?more Light? from ?more Dark?.? Sridham Mayapur is also known as a place where Caitanya Mahaprabhu appeared.? But who is Caitanya Mahaprabhu? He is a combination of Krishna who is very dark and of Radharani who is very effulgent.? Symbolically, it is the same thing. Now, this can?t be just a coincidence! In this way the ?birthplace? of Caitanya Mahaprabhu also seems to be marked on the Earth by astrological calculations. The combination of Radha-Krishna appeared on the line of combination of the Light and the Darkness! And this is not just ?somewhere near? the Tropic?. The Tropic of Cancer is nowadays located exactly in Yogapith, going through the kunda there! This can be seen in Google Maps satellite photos http://horoskoop.ee/astromap/?lon=88.392949&lat=23.437340&zoomlevel=0

It is also interesting that a very unusual temple is being built in Sridham Mayapur. All the temples in the world are dedicated to one or another diety so far. But Mayapur temple is a combination of religious deities and a scientific Vedic Planetarium. Very unusual! In this way we see again the Light and the Darkness being combined. Material science is clearly darkness but self realization and deity worship? are a light of consciousness. Well, materialistic persons view it exactly the opposite way ? they see a religion as darkness and a science as light. This makes things even more interesting as now these two will melt together!

All this is not just intellectually or esoterically interesting but this may very well be an additonal proof that Caitanya Mahaprabhu?s? actual birthplace is exactly where it is considered to be, so expertly found by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur and Jagannatha das Babaji? Maharaja and not in the Navadwip where some pandas have claimed it to be.

iTunes refresh delayed till 'end of November'

We were all a little shocked when Apple failed to deliver a redesigned iTunes at its last keynote. The company promised a major revamp of the service would land in October yet, here we are with one day left in the month, and no iTunes overhaul in sight. Today Tom Neumayr, a spokesperson for the Cupertino firm, confirmed to AllThingsD that the software release had indeed been pushed back by a month. Only a few short days ago CFO Peter Oppenheimer was touting the refresh during the company's earnings call saying, "We look forward to looking to launching a redesigned iTunes. The new iTunes has a dramatically simpler and cleaner interface." But he made no mention of a delay. Neumayr says the goal now is to release the update before the end of November stating that development is "taking longer than expected and we wanted to take a little extra time to get it right." While the issue primarily cited in Neumayr's statement is "seamless integration with iCloud" we wouldn't be shocked if it's rumored internet radio service also is playing a role in the delay. Read the complete statement below.

"The new iTunes is taking longer than expected and we wanted to take a little extra time to get it right. We look forward to releasing this new version of iTunes with its dramatically simpler and cleaner interface, and seamless integration with iCloud before the end of November."

Get Rich Instantly by Using the Best Pick 3 Lottery Software

Many people are looking for ways to earn money the fastest way so that they could pay for many of their needs as well as their families' needs. Because of the increasing prices of many products and services across the country and even across the globe, people are now focused on saving money instead of spending it lavishly on luxury items.

However, it is undeniable that many people look forward to the day that their hard efforts will culminate in the moment of glory when they are able to purchase anything they want because they have loads of money at hand. In fact, this dream should not be uncommon; many kids are brought up with the dreams of acquiring their dream house and their dream car, and going on trips to their dream holiday destinations. There are so many things that a person can do as long as he or she has the money to purchase it.

Some people use their dream objects as a primary motivation to work hard in their own jobs. They plan to work for a specific company, for example, and save their salaries while living on bare necessities just so they could spend their hard-earned money on lavish items including signature bags, shoes, accessories, and other materials.

Of course, becoming rich in the sense that a person can buy anything he or she wants is quite difficult to achieve even in a person's lifetime because it would require great patience and perhaps living on the barest necessities just so he or she can save properly.

However, many people acknowledge this honest and patient method as highly unlikely to help a person reach his or her goal in becoming rich. Because there are so many things that a person has to spend on, it is difficult to save money. Aside from that, the products and services have also increased their prices, much to the consumers' dismay.

Thankfully, there is an alternative to this problem. The lottery is one of the popular solutions seen by people, since the lottery is a low-risk, high-returns type of betting. The lottery is defined as betting a small amount of money on a chosen number combination and then if a person is lucky enough, the jackpot number combination corresponds to his or her bet. When this happens, it only means that the person has won the prize money offered in the lottery, which involves thousands and even millions of dollars.

One of the popular lottery types is the pick 3 lottery. The options are very limited in this game because a person has to get the three numbers ordered correctly so that he or she could win the prize money. Now for those who are interested in getting a better chance of winning this type of lottery, they can invest in getting the best pick 3 lottery software.

You can find different lottery software which will offer you better chances of getting the prize number combination. However, to find the best pick 3 lottery software, you must be able to check the credibility of the software-maker or company. Are there any good reviews on the product? A small research on a specific pick 3 lottery software can give you a better idea which software to download or buy. Ultimately, it is important to keep in mind that using the best pick 3 lottery software is the only way to better your chances of winning the lottery and getting rich in the end.

Rise of Smartphone Theft Shows Need for Better BYOD Security

According to a recent article in the Huffington Post, nearly half of all robberies in San Francisco are smartphone thefts. These aren?t just simple thefts of someone picking up the phone sitting on the table at a caf? or bar, but phones being ripped from a person?s hand as they are in the middle of a conversation and armed robberies that specifically want the phone.

As a smartphone owner, a story like this is almost enough to make me want to leave the phone at home, or at least not use it in public places. Smartphone users now must battle in-person criminals as well as cybercriminals.

Yet, while it is appears the threats to smartphones (both physical and cyber) are rising, IT departments seem to brush off BYOD security. According to eWeek:

A survey of 4,000 full-time employees by technology consulting firm Ovum found that while nearly 70 percent of all smartphone-owning professionals are using their personal device to access corporate data, 80 percent of BYOD activity remains inadequately managed by IT departments. The survey found nearly half of the IT departments of the respondents? employers either did not know of BYOD or were ignoring its existence, operating a ?don?t ask, don?t tell? policy, while just 8.1 percent actively discouraged it.

Unfortunately, the Ovum survey isn?t an anomaly. Several other reports found lax security practices in BYOD.

There are a lot of articles out there that will give you steps and ideas on how to implement BYOD security practices, but I think that before you can implement something, you have to get people at all levels to understand why it is needed. Why isn?t BYOD activity adequately managed and do employees know the risks involved, and what they can lose (and I?m not just talking about the phone itself)?

As Ovum senior analyst Richard Absalom said in a statement quoted by eWeek:

BYOD multiplies the number of networks, applications and endpoints through which data is accessed. These are the three main points at which data is vulnerable; so, if left unmanaged, BYOD creates a huge data security risk.

We Did It: Just Keep Moving Fitness | Greatist

With the weather turning cooler, the Greatist Team headed indoors this past Friday for a kickboxing bootcamp at NYC?s Just Keep Moving Fitness. Everyone at Greatist is already a martial arts master, with skills in Muay Thai, Krav Maga, and Japanese Sword Fighting. We were mentally prepped for an hour or so of punching, kicking, and grappling ? hopefully all with minimal bodily harm.

Just Keep Moving Fitness

After arriving at JKM?s basement studio, however, we soon realized the emphasis was definitely going to be on the bootcamp aspect of the class. Instructor Javar Lee had set up 30 ? yep, 30 ??different stations for a nonstop, rotating mega-circuitwith minimal rest and a whole lotta??action.

After a quick but thorough warm-up led by gym founder Tauris McBride, Javar took us right into the main event. Everyone in the class started at a different station and rotated after one minute, eventually hitting every muscle group ? and it seemed like just about every possible movement ? along the way. Ring pull-ups, burpees, squats, medicine ball presses, kicks, punches, and the new-to-us ?ground-and-pound? with a heavy fighting dummy were just a few of the stand outs during the ?seemingly never-ending course.

Finally, Javar called time. Drenched and exhausted, we collected ourselves and joined the class regulars in wiping the floors clean of sweat (and maybe a few tears). The circuit was difficult, sure, but it was also fun, and Javar?s selection of exercises ensured we never got bored. The only downside was that with so much going on, it was easy to get mixed up on movements and difficult for Javar to keep track of what everyone was up to at a given time. But we worked together to figure out the details and nail down exercise form.

Before we left, Tauris gave us the scoop on how JKM was founded. After losing 150 pounds over the course of a year, Tauris was inspired to start a gym where members could explore a wide range of classes and fitness methodologies; after all, mixing things up keeps fitness from getting boring. If Javar?s class is any indication, we don?t think that?ll be a problem for Just Keep Moving?s members anytime soon.

Fat Loss Supplements With Full Strength Raspberry Ketones and ...

Health and Fitness | Weight Loss | * Written by Cedric Loiselle | Sunday, 21 October 2012 20:51 | Word Count: 638

? ? A lot of people in this generation have shown particular interest in healthy living so much so that people are continuously in search of health-boosting supplements to help them get by with their busy lifestyle. No wonder the market is flooded with an overwhelming variety of health supplements and weight loss medications ? all promoting and advocating healthy living. On top of these, people are keenly committed in exercise and regular workouts, despite their busy schedule. It has become a beneficial trend that people get to do willingly. This had caused us to see a lot of fitness and wellness centers sprouting left and right and of course, advocating the same - healthy living. So, it?s safe to say that a great majority of the population in today?s scenario belongs to the health conscious and health advocates groups.

?

Considering the vast variety of health supplements and weight loss medications available in the market these days, it can be pretty confusing and difficult when deciding which supplements are safe, which one can help lose weight, which supplements are FDA approved, etc. Try and visit your local health store, or even go online, and you will see how overwhelming it can get as you scan and browse through each brand of health supplements and weight loss medications. For weight watchers, scanning through the shelves of your local health store, you can find a fat loss supplement with full strength raspberry ketones ? the same supplement that made it to the screen of the viewers of the popular Dr Oz Show. Another weight loss medication with white kidney bean extract is lined up next to the raspberry ketones. Both are fat loss supplements with slightly different way of controlling weight.

?

Fat loss supplements with full strength raspberry ketones are said to be effective in burning fats. The main ingredient, raspberry ketone, is a sweet-smelling compound extracted from red raspberries used in cosmetics and perfumes and as a food flavoring agent. Dr Oz has openly endorsed this weight loss supplement which is found to prevent weight gain and improve fatty liver when tested in some animal models. Scientists believe that the anti-obesity effects appear to stem from the action of raspberry ketone in stimulating lipolysis ? this is how fat is broken down by the body in fat cells called white adipocytes. The same raspberry ketone prevents the release of a digestive enzyme (pancreatic lipase) which is needed to break down the dietary fats to allow absorption through the small intestinal wall.

?

Fat loss supplement with white kidney bean extract, on the other hand shared the same limelight in Dr Oz Show as Dr Oz called it his favorite fat buster. This weight loss medication blocks carbs - it prevents the stomach from breaking carbohydrates into simple sugars so the calories are not absorbed into the body. This fat buster should be taken before meals with carbs or starch to lose body fat. That means you don?t really have to give up on your carbohydrates for good. This extract will take care of blocking the carbs so they don?t break up and get absorbed into your body. While this white bean extract has been in the market for so long, it has not been marketed as well as the other less effective supplements. White bean extract is a safe and effective fat buster.

?

The fact that 60 percent of the Americans are overweight and about 18 million are found to have Type 2 diabetes, fat loss supplements like these two will somehow help address this problem by shedding those harmful pounds and enjoy a healthier life.

Beetles use dung balls to stay cool

ScienceDaily (Oct. 22, 2012) ? Dung beetles roll their feasts of dung away to avoid the hoards of other hungry competitors at the dung pile. But now a team of researchers from South Africa and Sweden have discovered that they also use their balls in another, rather clever way. The moist balls keep the beetles cool even as they push a weight up to 50 times heavier than their own bodies across the hot sand.

"The beetles climb on top of their moist balls whenever their front legs and heads overheat," said Prof. Marcus Byrne from Wits University. "We stumbled upon this behaviour by accident while watching for an 'orientation dance' which the beetles perform on top of their balls to work out where they're going. We noticed that they climbed their balls much more often in the heat of the midday sun."

Further experiments showed that this midday phenomenon only held true when the beetles were crossing hot ground. In fact, beetles on hot soil climb their balls seven times as often as those on cooler ground.

To show that it was the beetles' hot legs that made them climb the ball, the researchers applied some cool (as in temperature) silicone boots to their front legs as alternative protection from the heat. "To our great surprise, this actually worked, and beetles with boots on climbed their balls less often," said Dr Jochen Smolka from Lund University, who collaborated on the research.

The discovery marks the first example of an insect using a mobile thermal refuge in this way. It is also a demonstration of the remarkably sophisticated strategies that insects and other cold-blooded creatures employ to maintain their body temperatures.

Once on top of a ball at midday, the beetles were often seen "wiping their faces," a preening behavior that the researchers suspect spreads regurgitated liquid onto their legs and head to cool them down further. That's something the insects never do at other times of day.

The findings are yet another reminder of the many creative solutions found in nature. According to Smolka, "Evolution has an astonishing ability to make use of existing structures for new purposes -- in this case using a food resource for thermoregulation."

The Walking Dead, Season 3

A Walker attacks Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) on The Walking Dead A Walker attacks Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) on Sunday's episode of The Walking Dead

Still by Gene Page/AMC.

In the Season 2 finale, Rick finally revealed to his group what the CDC researcher whispered into his ear: Everyone has the zombie virus, and anyone who dies with an intact brain rises once more as a walker. Ever since, I?ve been wondering if getting bit by a zombie actually matters anymore. Aren?t bites supposed to turn you into a zombie by infecting you with the zombie virus? So what does it matter if you get infected with a virus you already have?

Slate commenter Lemur_Lad seems to have figured out the rules on this one: ?A bite from an active zombie that gets in your bloodstream will make you sick and eventually kill you, only to resurrect as a Walker. Otherwise the infection everyone carries waits until natural death to activate.? I suppose there is some other biological agent, apart from the zombie virus, that?s transferred via zombie saliva, sickens you, and kills you, thereby zombifying you. I?ll just embrace this ?Zombie Mono? explanation and press on.

Anyway, since Zombie Mono exists, Rick didn?t trick the leader of the prison gang into turning against one of their wounded, so he?s not as murderous as Dave and I thought. Still, when he coolly puts a machete into Tomas? head and chases another prisoner to his death, I?m not the only one who wondered if the zombie apocalypse has disillusioned Rick about the value of human life. ?When he kills Tomas it's basically just muscle memory,? says executive producer Glen Mazzarra in an interview with Zap2It. ?That's who Rick is. That's a very, very different Rick than we've seen in the past.?

The scene shocked me not because Rick does it so casually but because, in the words of the AV Club?s Zach Handlen, ?The stalling and dithering of so much of last season (and, let?s be honest, the middle of season one) made it appear likely that the group of cons would hang around for a while before one of them inevitably stepped over a line, after which Rick would argue with Lori and whomever else was still alive about what to do next.?

Rick?s new cynicism is understandable. He and his group live in a perpetual bloodbath. This season has really upped the gore, which prompted Zap2It to ask Mazzarra if he?s not making the show too gross. Stuff I?m having trouble scrubbing from my memory: Rick pulling the face off a zombie in the season premiere, Hershel?s severed leg lying nonchalantly on the floor, and, of course, the zombie C-section in ?Sick.? The Baltimore Sun?s Andrew Conrad called that scene ?the most lasting image? of the episode.

If, amid all this gore, Rick ever found relief in his family, he doesn?t anymore. After Lorie resuscitates Hershel, Rick and Lorie meet outside and joke about the frivolousness of a divorce in a zombie apocalypse. But their marriage is clearly over. As Caitlin Hughes from Film School Rejects writes, when Rick puts his hand on Lorie?s shoulder and says, ?We?re awful grateful for what you did? as if she?s any other member of the group, Rick is basically signing their divorce papers. It?s good that Carl?s learned to hold his own, because both parents are neglecting him, and I expect their separation will only make his life worse.

If not for the characters, then for the audience: So far so good! The Walking Dead has, for the most part, avoided the mistakes of its previous season. I?ll agree with Maureen Ryan from the Huffington Post: This is shaping up to be the best season yet.

How chips, PCs, services companies are faring

Companies providing computers, components, services and related software have begun releasing their earnings reports for the latest quarter. The reports come as consumers shift their spending toward tablets and a weak global economy curbs corporate spending on computers. Here's a look at how selected companies are faring.

? Oct. 10: Research firms IDC and Gartner say worldwide shipments of PCs fell sharply in the third quarter, as some consumers spent their electronics dollars on smartphones and tablets and others held off for a new version of Windows. Gartner also estimates that Chinese PC maker Lenovo Group Ltd. outsold Hewlett-Packard Co. for the first time to become the world's largest seller of PCs. IDC still had HP on top.

? Oct. 16: Intel Corp., the world's largest chipmaker, says the usual bounce in sales due to the holiday season is likely to be cut in half this year, even though Microsoft is launching a new operating system that it says will get consumers excited about PCs again. In the quarter that just ended, Intel's revenue from PC chips fell 8 percent from a year ago, in line with reports from IDC and Gartner.

IBM Corp. says revenue slipped below Wall Street's expectations, much of it because of the economic deterioration in Europe and other parts of the world, which resulted in weakened international currencies and translated into fewer dollars on sales made abroad. IBM management also raised the specter of slowing demand for the company's technology-consulting services and business-software products as corporate customers become more cautious and debt-laden government agencies deal with budget cuts.

? Oct. 18: Microsoft Corp. says net income fell 22 percent in the latest quarter as it deferred revenue from the sale of its upcoming Windows 8 operating system to PC makers ? and as PC sales in general took a dive. Excluding the deferrals, revenue for the Windows division fell 9 percent from a year ago, roughly in line with the decline in global PC shipments in the third quarter reported by research firms Gartner and IDC.

Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. says it will cut nearly 1,800 jobs, about 15 percent of its workforce, by the end of the year in order to reduce spending in the face of dwindling sales. CEO Rory Read says trends that are reshaping the PC industry are happening faster than the company expected. The job cuts were announced as AMD reported that its revenue tumbled 25 percent in its just-ended quarter.

SanDisk Corp. reports lower net income and revenue for the third quarter as the company sold fewer of its memory chips to gadget makers. But the results surpassed Wall Street's expectations, and SanDisk says it is gaining market share from competitors.

? Monday: Texas Instruments Inc. CEO Rich Templeton says the chipmaker executed well in the quarter "even though the economy and semiconductor market remained weak and likely will get weaker in the fourth quarter." Texas Instruments says it expects fourth-quarter earnings of 23 cents to 31 cents per share. That's below the 36 cents per share expected by analysts.

Hard drive maker Western Digital Corp. says first-quarter net income more than doubled from a year ago, helped by the March acquisition of a data storage subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd. CEO John Coyne says a weak economy is "dampening near term demand" but said he remains confident in the company's prospects over the long term.

Coming up:

? Tuesday: Xerox Corp.

? Wednesday: EMC Corp., SAP AG

? Thursday: Apple Inc.

? Friday: Samsung Electronics Co

? Oct. 30: Seagate Technology PLC

? Nov. 7: Qualcomm Inc.

? Nov. 20: Hewlett Packard Co., Dell. Inc., Salesforce.com Inc.

App tracks your trick-or-treating kids on Halloween

6 hrs.

In the annual race to score the most candy on Halloween night, kids can easily lose their way. App developer Iconosys has updated its family tracking app to include a safety compass that points children in the direction of home.

Its Trick or Tracker app links a parent's and child's phone and uses each phone's GPS capabilities to monitor locations. If parents leave the house to visit a neighbor, the compass will point in the direction of the parents' location. Children must have an Android phone , but parents don't need one; they can use their iPhone, BlackBerry or Windows 7 phone.

Parents can set a boundary or geo-fence by specifying an acceptable radius around the home on the app's map. If a child wanders out of range, the parent will receive a text message ?alert. Also, curfews can be enforced through Trick or Tracker. A "latchkey kid" feature sends an alert to the parent's phone when children arrive at the door.

On a lighter note, the child's app has a flashlight for illuminating dark pathways or finding that special treat at the bottom of a full pillowcase of loot. Kids can choose from white, glow-stick neon colors or other holiday hues.

Trick or Tracker 3.0 is available for download from TrickorTracker.com or from the Amazon App Store. The app costs $5 for a lifetime license. And though the app has a Halloween theme, its useful safety features won't disappear at the stroke of midnight ? it works all year long.
